About the project
The impact of climate change on tourism is significant and largely determines how tourism products and services are developed and delivered. At the same time, climate change significantly influences decision-making on the tourism demand side. Climate change affects the sustainability of destinations, and its direct impact is reflected in the quality of life of local communities. Internationally, numerous initiatives and strategic documents are emerging that are directly related to climate change in general, as well as its impact on the tourism system and tourism destinations, highlighting the importance of this research issue. The research in this project is conducted directly in tourism destinations and includes all stakeholders who are directly or indirectly involved in the creation of tourism policy. Based on the results, an index of the sensitivity of destinations in the Republic of Croatia to climate change is to be developed. The results and the created index will enable the formulation of strategies for adapting tourism destinations to climate change, as well as the publication of a manual intended for destination stakeholders. Using the manual, destinations will be able to equip all stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary for rapid and effective adaptation to climate change. These findings should enable destinations to become more resilient and adaptable to climate change, and the results are expected to have a positive impact on the quality of life of the local population.
